Perth Central Mosque, operating as The Light Project, is a registered charity (SC054334) dedicated to serving the Muslim community of Perth and Kinross. Located at 24 New Row, Perth (PH1 5QA), the mosque provides daily prayers, Jumu'ah congregations, educational programmes, youth engagement services, and community outreach initiatives. Founded by Ibrahim Al-Makki, who memorized the Qur'an at the age of 16 in Makkah, the organization has grown into a permanent fixture for Muslims across Perth, Scone, Crieff, Pitlochry, and Aberfeldy.
The mosque achieved a landmark milestone in January 2025 with the purchase of its building. The acquisition was funded through a Qardh Hasanah (interest-free loan) of £225,000, securing a permanent home for worship and community activities. Owning the building enables long-term planning, programme expansion, and investment in facilities for future generations. According to the mosque's Annual Impact Report 2025, the organization welcomed 6,500 attendees for Jumu'ah prayers in 2025 alone. The report also documents a 90 percent rise in enquiries for classes and support services. Over 20 dedicated volunteers and visiting scholars supported more than 30 community events, spanning interfaith dialogues, Eid fairs, charity dinners, and educational seminars.
Perth Central Mosque operates across four core pillars: religious services, educational programmes, youth engagement, and community outreach. Religious services encompass Jumu'ah prayers, daily Salah, Nikah services, and spiritual retreats. Educational programmes include children's Madrasah classes, adult learning sessions, and sisters' halaqahs. Youth engagement provides sports sessions, mentoring, character development, and structured youth activities. Community outreach delivers open mosque days, interfaith dialogue, food bank support, and welfare assistance.
Visiting scholars have included Shaykh Qari Jawad Ghassan As-Swissry, Shaykh Suliman Gani, and Shaykh Zahir Mahmood. The mosque broadcasts live prayer services through eMasjid Live, providing remote access to worshippers. A WhatsApp community keeps members informed of upcoming events, prayer time changes, and community announcements. The organization maintains active social media presences on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
The estimated cost of ongoing renovation works totals £200,000. Donations power the building's continued development and programme expansion. The mosque accepts Sadaqah, Zakat, and general charitable contributions through its online donation portal. The Qurbani programme extends charitable reach internationally, with Qurbani 2026 arranged in India (Bhopal) at £170 per buffalo full share or £25 per one-seventh share.
